The Gocar is a two-seater, 3 wheeled vehicle with a 49cc size scooter engine and legally qualified as a scooter. The GoCars were developed for the tourism industry as a sightseeing option for tours, a different way to explore a city. This new vehicle was conceived, developed and created by Nathan Withrington and Alasdair Clements in 2003 in San Francisco, United States.
We like to call it “The only Talking Car in town”! Gocars are exclusive talking cars that are driven effortlessly, taking you on tours through the city sights, while giving all the information you need to know about Lisbon due to a unique GPS audio-guide system.
This vehicle is particularly popular amongst visitors who are looking for different solutions to explore a city. Rather than choose a public transport or walking around the city (which for instance, has 7 hills), or even sightseeing buses, the aim is to do something different, unique and fun. If you have this profile and a driver license, this tour is for you!
During this experience the cars are literally your guides due to an on-board tablet and the GPS-system! You’ll be able to drive through the streets of Lisbon while the clever talking car navigate the way, leading you to some of the city’s main attractions. More than a tour guide, this vehicle is a charismatic storyteller! As you drive, it points out the highlights and tells you the stories that bring Lisbon to life.

GOCAR STEP BY STEP
1 – The Protocol
- The first thing to do the moment you arrive to our store is to read and sign the Liability Release Form and to present a valid Driver’s License (the original).
- The insurance option is available and can be purchased on the day of the experience.
- Collision Damage Waiver is an optional purchase per Gocar. Collision damage waiver covers a physical damage to the rental vehicle only. Collision damage waiver does not cover any other losses, including fire, theft or any lost rental time due to any accident, damage or theft.
- Our customers will need to present a €100,00 deposit, in cash or credit card.
2 – The Briefing
- Before the adventure starts, our staff will show you a small demo / briefing as well as some do’s and dont’s. It’s important to pay attention to the driving instructions, to the gps system explanation and tablet funcionalities in order to be able to solve any doubt that may occur during the way. Anyway, the gocars have an emergency number that you can use in any circumstance.
- We have different circuits available so you can choose the adventure you wish. GoCar Tours lets you choose not only the highlights and areas you’ll see, but also how long your tour will be.
- The GoCar audio tours are available in several different languages including English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
3 – Here we go!
- One of the main advantages of this sightseeing tours is that everything happens at your pace. You can stop for photos, you can park the vehicle and explore some specific location by walking, grab a coffee or, if you have the time, stop for lunch! You can design your own route and explore the old neighborhoods, parks and riverside.
- The Gocars are easy to drive. It’s as simple as a bike, it has accelerator & brakes and you can go up to 50 km/h at the most. Driving a Gocar is an exciting and fun experience for sure.
- By choosing this vehicle you’ll feel like you’re experiencing the city from a local’s perspective, as you drive by your own, autonomously. It’s a great thing to do as a couple or even as a goup of friends! No matter if you’re in different cars, you can go all together anyway and create a funny yellow queue in the streets of Lisbon.
